Narrandera is a town located in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia. It is situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River and serves as the administrative center for the Narrandera Shire.

Narrandera was established in 1863, following the discovery of gold in the region. The town's name is derived from the Wiradjuri word "Narrungdera," meaning "place of lizards." The area was originally inhabited by the Wiradjuri people, who have a rich cultural heritage and history in the region.

The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century, becoming a significant hub for agriculture and transportation. The arrival of the railway in 1881 further boosted its development, facilitating the movement of goods and people.

Narrandera is located at the junction of the Newell Highway and the Sturt Highway, making it an important crossroads in the Riverina. The town is surrounded by fertile agricultural land, which supports a variety of crops, including wheat, rice, and canola.

The Murrumbidgee River provides water for irrigation and is a popular spot for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and swimming.
