Nash Finch Company

Nash Finch Company is a renowned Fortune 500 company that was primarily involved in the food distribution industry. The company was founded in 1885 and was headquartered in Edina, Minnesota. In 2013, Nash Finch Company merged with Spartan Stores to form SpartanNash.

The Nash Finch Company was established by Fred Nash, Edgar Nash, and Willis Nash in Devil's Lake, North Dakota. The company initially started as a small candy and tobacco store but later expanded into a grocery business. In 1919, the company merged with Finch Brothers to form the Nash Finch Company.

Business Operations[edit | edit source]

Nash Finch Company was one of the leading food distribution companies in the United States. The company served independent retailers and military commissaries through its food distribution segment. It also operated corporate-owned stores under the banners of Family Fresh Market, Econofoods, and Sun Mart.

Merger with Spartan Stores[edit | edit source]

In 2013, Nash Finch Company and Spartan Stores announced a merger agreement. The merger resulted in the creation of a new entity, SpartanNash, which became the largest food distributor serving military commissaries and exchanges in the United States.
