Powhatan Confederacy[edit | edit source]

The Powhatan Confederacy was a powerful alliance of several tribes in the Virginia area, led by Chief Powhatan. This confederacy included tribes such as the Pamunkey, Mattaponi, and Chickahominy. The Powhatan Confederacy was instrumental in the early interactions with English settlers, including the establishment of Jamestown in 1607.
