Mattaponi

Mattaponi is a tribe of Native Americans in the United States that has a rich history of traditional medicine and healing practices. The tribe is part of the larger Powhatan confederacy and is based in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Mattaponi have a reservation on the banks of the Mattaponi River near West Point, Virginia.

The Mattaponi tribe has a long history dating back to the 17th century. They were part of the Powhatan confederacy, a powerful alliance of Algonquian-speaking tribes in the Virginia area. The Mattaponi were known for their skills in fishing and agriculture, as well as their knowledge of medicinal plants and healing practices.

The Mattaponi have a rich tradition of using herbal medicine in their healing practices. They use a variety of plants and herbs, many of which are native to the Virginia area.
