New Haven is a city located in New Haven County, in the state of Connecticut, United States. It is situated on the northern shore of Long Island Sound and is part of the New York metropolitan area. New Haven is notable for being the home of Yale University, one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

New Haven was founded in 1638 by English Puritans led by John Davenport and Theophilus Eaton. It was one of the first planned cities in America, with a grid layout known as the "Nine Square Plan," which is now a National Historic Landmark.
In the 18th century, New Haven became a center for manufacturing and trade. The city played a significant role during the American Revolutionary War, providing supplies and troops to the Continental Army.
