North Ossetia
North Ossetia (officially known as the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania) is a federal subject of Russia, located in the North Caucasus region. It shares borders with Georgia to the south and is surrounded by other Russian federal subjects such as Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Stavropol Krai.

The history of North Ossetia stretches back to the ancient times. The region was part of the Scythian kingdom in the 7th century BC. It later fell under the control of various empires including the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, and the Mongol Empire. In the 18th century, North Ossetia voluntarily joined the Russian Empire.

North Ossetia is located in the central part of the North Caucasus. The republic is predominantly mountainous, with the Caucasus Mountains covering a significant part of its territory. The highest peak in the republic is Mount Kazbek, which is also one of the highest peaks in Europe.
