The Nursing Service Cross is a distinguished military decoration awarded to members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). It is specifically granted to recognize exceptional devotion and competence in the performance of nursing duties, or for an act of exceptional dedication in the provision of nursing care.

The Nursing Service Cross was established on 18 October 1989 by letters patent. It was created to acknowledge the significant contributions of nursing personnel within the ADF, who often work under challenging and hazardous conditions.

Eligibility[edit | edit source]

The Nursing Service Cross is awarded to members of the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Army, and the Royal Australian Air Force. It can also be awarded to members of the Australian Defence Force Reserves and other individuals who have rendered exceptional nursing service to the ADF.

Design[edit | edit source]

The Nursing Service Cross is a silver cross with a central medallion. The obverse of the medallion features a representation of the Florence Nightingale lamp, symbolizing the nursing profession. The reverse of the cross is inscribed with the recipient's name and the year of the award.
