Odvar Nordli (April 3, 1927 – January 9, 2018) was a Norwegian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Norway from 1976 to 1981. He was a member of the Labour Party.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Nordli was born on April 3, 1927, in Tangen, Norway. He became involved in politics at a young age and joined the Labour Party.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Nordli was elected to the Norwegian Parliament in 1961 and served as Minister of Local Government from 1971 to 1972. In 1976, he became the Prime Minister of Norway, succeeding Trygve Bratteli. Nordli's tenure as Prime Minister was marked by economic challenges and social reforms.

During his time in office, Nordli focused on issues such as unemployment, healthcare, and education. He also played a key role in shaping Norway's foreign policy, particularly in relation to the European Economic Community (EEC).

Nordli resigned as Prime Minister in 1981 and retired from politics in 1985. He passed away on January 9, 2018, in Oslo, Norway.
