Old Monk
Old Monk is an iconic Indian rum brand, primarily known for its dark rum variant. It is produced by Mohan Meakin, a large Indian conglomerate with diverse business interests, including breweries and distilleries.
History[edit | edit source]
Old Monk was introduced in the Indian market in 1954 by Mohan Meakin. The brand was developed by the company's then managing director, Brigadier (Dr.) Kapil Mohan. The rum is named "Old Monk" as a tribute to the Benedictine monks who, as per the legends, were the first to make this type of liquor.
Production[edit | edit source]
Old Monk is a molasses-based rum, aged for a minimum of 7 years, although the company also produces variants aged for 12 years and more. The rum is distilled in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and it is one of the few rums in the world to be produced without any artificial flavors.
Variants[edit | edit source]
Old Monk is available in several variants, including Old Monk Gold Reserve Rum, Old Monk Supreme Rum, and Old Monk Legend Limited Edition Rum. Each variant has its unique taste and alcohol content.
