Overton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,083. Its county seat is Livingston. The county was founded in 1806 and named after John Overton, a prominent judge in Tennessee.

Overton County was established in 1806 from parts of Jackson and White counties. The county is named after John Overton, a judge of the Tennessee Supreme Court and a close friend of Andrew Jackson. The county has a rich history, including its role in the American Civil War.
Geography[edit | edit source]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 435 square miles (1,130 km²), of which 433 square miles (1,120 km²) is land and 2.1 square miles (5.4 km²) (0.5%) is water. The county is part of the Cumberland Plateau region, characterized by its rugged terrain and scenic beauty.
