Ideogram human chromosome 6

Protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 11 (PPP1R11) is a regulatory subunit of the protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) enzyme. This protein is encoded by the PPP1R11 gene located on chromosome 17q21. PPP1R11 plays a crucial role in the regulation of various cellular processes by modulating the activity of PP1.

Function[edit | edit source]

PPP1R11 functions as a regulatory subunit of PP1, a major serine/threonine phosphatase involved in the dephosphorylation of a wide range of proteins. By binding to PP1, PPP1R11 helps target the enzyme to specific substrates, thereby influencing their dephosphorylation and subsequent cellular functions. PPP1R11 is known to be involved in the regulation of cell cycle progression, gene expression, and signal transduction pathways.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The PPP1R11 gene encodes a protein that consists of multiple domains responsible for its interaction with PP1 and other regulatory proteins. The structural organization of PPP1R11 allows it to form stable complexes with PP1 and modulate its phosphatase activity towards specific substrates.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations or dysregulation of PPP1R11 have been associated with various diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. Aberrant expression of PPP1R11 can disrupt normal cellular signaling pathways and contribute to disease progression.

Interactions[edit | edit source]

PPP1R11 interacts with several other proteins in addition to PP1, forming dynamic protein complexes that regulate diverse cellular processes. Some of the known interacting partners of PPP1R11 include PPP1CA, PPP1CB, and PPP1R15A.
