Packy Axton was an American saxophonist and producer known for his contributions to the soul music genre. He was born on September 29, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Packy Axton was born into a musical family. His father, Estelle Axton, co-founded the iconic record label Stax Records in Memphis. Growing up surrounded by music, Packy developed a passion for playing the saxophone at a young age.

Career[edit | edit source]

Packy Axton's musical career took off when he joined the renowned group The Mar-Keys in the early 1960s. The Mar-Keys were instrumental in shaping the sound of Memphis soul music and had several hits during that era. In addition to his work with The Mar-Keys, Packy Axton also collaborated with other prominent artists in the soul music scene, such as Otis Redding and Booker T. & the M.G.'s. His distinctive saxophone playing added a unique flavor to many classic soul recordings.
