Paraná is a state in Brazil, located in the southern part of the country. It is the sixth most populous state in Brazil, with a population of approximately 11.5 million people. The state's capital and largest city is Curitiba.

Paraná is bordered by the states of São Paulo to the north, Santa Catarina to the south, Mato Grosso do Sul to the west, and the countries of Argentina and Paraguay to the southwest. The state covers an area of approximately 199,307 square kilometers, making it the 15th largest state in Brazil by area.

The state's geography is diverse, with a range of landscapes including coastal plains, mountain ranges, and fertile farmland. The Iguaçu Falls, one of the world's largest and most spectacular waterfalls, is located in the state.

Paraná has a diverse economy, with significant contributions from agriculture, industry, and services. The state is one of the largest producers of soybeans, corn, and poultry in Brazil. Paraná's industrial sector is also strong, with industries such as automotive, petrochemical, and food processing playing a significant role.

Paraná's culture is a blend of influences from the indigenous Guarani people, Portuguese colonizers, and immigrants from Europe, the Middle East, and Japan. This diversity is reflected in the state's cuisine, music, and festivals.

The area that is now Paraná was originally inhabited by the Guarani people. The state was colonized by the Portuguese in the 16th century, and became a state of Brazil in 1853.
