The Parasympathetic root of ciliary ganglion is a root of the ciliary ganglion that arises from the oculomotor nerve.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The parasympathetic root of the ciliary ganglion is derived from the Edinger-Westphal nucleus in the midbrain. It travels with the oculomotor nerve and then branches off to join the ciliary ganglion in the orbit.

Function[edit | edit source]

The parasympathetic root of the ciliary ganglion provides parasympathetic innervation to the muscles that control the shape of the lens and the size of the pupil in the eye.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Damage to the parasympathetic root of the ciliary ganglion can result in a loss of parasympathetic function to the eye, leading to symptoms such as dilated pupils and difficulty focusing on near objects.
