Parral, Chihuahua[edit | edit source]

Parral, officially known as Hidalgo del Parral, is a city located in the southern part of the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name.

History[edit | edit source]

Parral was founded in 1631 as San José del Parral. The city was named after three Spanish miners who discovered rich silver deposits in the area. The city quickly became a major mining center in the region, and its wealth and importance continued to grow throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Parral is located in the southern part of the state of Chihuahua, about 220 kilometers south of the state capital, Chihuahua City. The city is situated in a valley surrounded by hills and mountains.

The economy of Parral is primarily based on mining, agriculture, and livestock. The city is known for its silver mines, which have been in operation since the 17th century. In addition to silver, other minerals such as lead, zinc, and gold are also mined in the area.
