La Boulange[edit | edit source]

In 1996, Rigo opened his first La Boulange bakery in San Francisco, California. The bakery quickly gained popularity for its authentic French pastries and breads. Over the years, Rigo expanded La Boulange into a successful chain of bakeries across the Bay Area.

In 2012, Starbucks acquired La Boulange for $100 million, with the intention of introducing Rigo's pastries to Starbucks locations nationwide. However, in 2015, Starbucks announced it would be closing all La Boulange locations, though Rigo's pastries continue to be sold in Starbucks stores.

Post-La Boulange[edit | edit source]

After the closure of La Boulange, Rigo launched several new ventures, including a new bakery chain called La Boulangerie de San Francisco. He also authored a cookbook, "La Boulange: Cafe Cooking at Home", which shares recipes for many of the bakery's popular items.

Rigo currently resides in San Francisco, California. He is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in supporting local food banks and culinary education programs.
