Patel Brothers

Patel Brothers is a U.S.-based grocery retail chain that primarily sells South Asian groceries. The chain was founded in 1974 by brothers Mafat and Tulsi Patel and has since grown to over 50 locations in the United States.

History[edit | edit source]

Mafat Patel and Tulsi Patel immigrated to the United States from the Indian state of Gujarat in the 1960s. They noticed a lack of Indian groceries in their new home, which led them to open the first Patel Brothers store in Chicago, Illinois, in 1974. The store was successful, and the brothers began to expand their business.

Expansion[edit | edit source]

The Patel Brothers chain expanded rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s, opening stores in several U.S. states. The chain's growth was driven by the increasing number of South Asian immigrants in the United States, who were looking for familiar foods and ingredients. Today, Patel Brothers has over 50 locations across the United States, making it one of the largest Indian grocery chains in the country.

Products[edit | edit source]

Patel Brothers offers a wide range of products, including fresh produce, spices, dry goods, frozen foods, and ready-to-eat meals. The chain is known for its extensive selection of Indian and South Asian groceries, but it also carries products from other parts of the world.

Impact[edit | edit source]

Patel Brothers has had a significant impact on the South Asian community in the United States. The chain has made it easier for immigrants to find familiar foods and ingredients, helping them to maintain their culinary traditions in their new home. In addition, Patel Brothers has helped to introduce Indian and South Asian cuisine to a wider audience.
