Patience Gray (31 October 1917 – 10 March 2005) was a British cookery and travel writer. She is best known for her work, Honey from a Weed, which is considered a classic in the field of culinary literature.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Patience Gray was born in Shackleford, Surrey, England. She attended Bedales School and later studied at the London School of Economics.
Career[edit | edit source]
Gray began her career as a journalist, working for the Observer in London. She later moved to Italy, where she wrote her most famous book, Honey from a Weed. The book is a collection of recipes and observations from her life in the Mediterranean.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Gray lived in Puglia, Italy, for the last 30 years of her life. She was known for her simple, self-sufficient lifestyle and her love of local, seasonal food.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Patience Gray's influence on the world of food and travel writing is still felt today. Her work has inspired many modern food writers and chefs, and Honey from a Weed continues to be a beloved classic.
