Paul Bookout
Paul Bookout is an American politician who served as a member of the Arkansas Senate and the Arkansas House of Representatives. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Paul Bookout was born in Arkansas. He is the son of Jerry Bookout, who also served in the Arkansas Senate. Paul Bookout attended Arkansas State University, where he earned a degree in Political Science.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Paul Bookout began his political career in the Arkansas House of Representatives, where he served from 1999 to 2004. During his tenure, he focused on issues such as healthcare, education, and economic development.
In 2006, Bookout was elected to the Arkansas Senate in a special election to fill the seat left vacant by his father's death. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2012. During his time in the Senate, he served as the President Pro Tempore from 2011 to 2013. As a state senator, Bookout worked on legislation related to public health, infrastructure, and state budget matters.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
In 2013, Paul Bookout resigned from the Arkansas Senate following an investigation by the Arkansas Ethics Commission. The commission found that he had misused campaign funds for personal expenses. This led to further legal issues, and in 2014, Bookout pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud and was sentenced to prison.
