Paul Michael Glaser (born March 25, 1943) is an American actor and director best known for his role as Detective David Starsky in the television series Starsky & Hutch. He has also directed several feature films and television series.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Paul Michael Glaser was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is the youngest of three children in a Jewish family. Glaser attended the Buckingham Browne & Nichols School and later went on to earn a degree in English and theater from Tulane University. He also holds a master's degree in fine arts from Boston University.

Acting[edit | edit source]

Glaser's acting career began in the late 1960s with guest appearances on various television shows. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Detective David Starsky in the hit television series Starsky & Hutch, which aired from 1975 to 1979. The show was a significant success and made Glaser a household name.

Directing[edit | edit source]

After Starsky & Hutch, Glaser transitioned into directing. He directed several episodes of the series and went on to direct feature films such as The Running Man and Kazaam. He has also directed episodes of various television series, including Miami Vice and Judging Amy.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Glaser married Elizabeth Meyer in 1980. The couple had two children, Ariel and Jake. Tragically, Elizabeth and Ariel contracted HIV through a blood transfusion, and both passed away in the early 1990s. Glaser has since been an advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness and research.

In memory of his wife and daughter, Glaser has been actively involved in various charitable organizations. He serves on the board of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which was founded by his late wife.
