Paysandú Department
Paysandú Department is one of the 19 departments of Uruguay. It is located in the western-central part of the country, bordered by the Río Uruguay to the west, which separates it from Argentina, the departments of Río Negro to the south, Tacuarembó Department to the east, and Salto Department to the north. The capital and most populous city of Paysandú Department is Paysandú.

The Paysandú Department was founded on 8 March 1863, when the National Assembly of Uruguay decided to divide the country into currently existing departments. The name Paysandú comes from a local Guaraní word meaning "place of hills".
Geography[edit | edit source]
The Paysandú Department covers an area of 13,922 square kilometers, making it the second largest department in Uruguay. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills, fertile plains, and the Uruguay River. The department is also home to several small lakes and streams.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of the Paysandú Department is largely based on agriculture and livestock. The main crops grown in the department are soybeans, wheat, and corn. The department is also known for its dairy industry, producing milk, cheese, and other dairy products. In addition, Paysandú has a significant industrial sector, with factories producing textiles, leather goods, and beer.
