- Pendleton was first settled in 1818 and was incorporated as a town in 1853. It is named after the town of Pendleton, South Carolina, the birthplace of the town's founder, Thomas Pendleton.

- Pendleton is located at 40°0′9″N 85°44′48″W. The town has a total area of 6.9 square miles, of which 6.7 square miles is land and 0.2 square miles is water.
