Pepper X

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Pepper X is a variety of Capsicum chinense, which is claimed to be the hottest pepper in the world. It was developed by Ed Currie, who also created the Carolina Reaper, previously recognized as the world's hottest pepper by the Guinness World Records.

History[edit | edit source]

Pepper X was first announced in 2017 by Ed Currie in an episode of the YouTube series Hot Ones. Currie had been developing the pepper for over 10 years prior to the announcement. The name "Pepper X" is a placeholder, as Currie has stated that he has a name picked out for the pepper but is waiting for the right time to announce it.

Heat[edit | edit source]

Pepper X is claimed to have a Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) rating of 3.18 million, which is over twice as hot as the Carolina Reaper, the current Guinness World Record holder for the hottest pepper, which has an average SHU of 1.5 million. However, as of 2021, the SHU of Pepper X has not been officially verified by Guinness World Records.

Culinary Uses[edit | edit source]

Pepper X is used in the hot sauce The Last Dab, which is featured on Hot Ones. The sauce is known for its extreme heat and is used in the final round of the show's celebrity interviews. Despite its heat, Pepper X is said to have a fruity, sweet flavor.
