Fibularis tertius

Fibularis tertius (also known as peroneus tertius) is a muscle in the lower leg that aids in the movement of the foot. It is considered part of the anterior compartment of the leg.

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

The fibularis tertius originates from the lower third of the anterior surface of the fibula and the adjacent interosseous membrane. It inserts into the dorsal surface of the base of the fifth metatarsal bone.

Function[edit | edit source]

The fibularis tertius assists in dorsiflexion and eversion of the foot.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Injury to the fibularis tertius can result in foot drop, a condition where the individual has difficulty lifting the front part of the foot.
