Pescara is a city in Italy, located on the eastern coast of the Italian Peninsula, on the Adriatic Sea. It is the capital city of the Province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region. With over 120,000 inhabitants, Pescara is one of the most populous cities in southern Italy.

Pescara's history dates back to the Roman era, when it was known as Aternum. It was later conquered by the Lombards, and then by the Byzantine Empire. In the Middle Ages, Pescara was a thriving port and a center of trade and commerce.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Pescara is located on the Adriatic coast, at the mouth of the Pescara River. The city is surrounded by hills and mountains, which form part of the Apennine Mountains range. The city's climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters.

Pescara's economy is largely based on services, with a significant contribution from tourism, thanks to its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife. The city is also an important commercial and transportation hub, with the Pescara Port and the Abruzzo International Airport.

Pescara is known for its rich cultural heritage. The city is home to several museums, including the Museum of the Abruzzo People and the Vittoria Colonna Museum of Modern Art. Pescara also hosts the annual Pescara Jazz Festival, one of the most important jazz festivals in Italy.

Pescara is home to Pescara Calcio, a football team that plays in the Italian Serie B. The city also hosted the 2009 Mediterranean Games.
