Peterborough is a city in Cambridgeshire, England. It is situated in the East of England, approximately 75 miles north of London. The city has a rich history dating back to the Anglo-Saxon period and has grown significantly over the centuries.

Peterborough's history can be traced back to the Anglo-Saxon period when it was known as Medeshamstede. The city is home to the Peterborough Cathedral, one of the most significant cathedrals in England, which was originally founded as a monastery in 655 AD. The cathedral is renowned for its impressive Norman architecture and the burial place of two Queens of England, Catherine of Aragon and Mary, Queen of Scots.

During the Medieval period, Peterborough became an important religious center. The monastery was dissolved in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII, and the church was reconstituted as a cathedral in 1541.
