Petrosino

Petrosino is a town and comune located in the Province of Trapani, in the western part of Sicily, Italy. It is named after the Italian-American detective Joseph Petrosino, who was known for his fight against organized crime in the United States.

Petrosino was established as a municipality on 25 May 1980, following a regional law that provided for the establishment of new municipalities in the Province of Trapani. Prior to this, it was a fraction of the municipality of Marsala. The town was named in honor of Lieutenant Joseph Petrosino, an Italian-American detective of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) who was assassinated by the Mafia in 1909.

Petrosino is located in the western part of Sicily, in the Province of Trapani. It is bordered by the municipalities of Marsala and Mazara del Vallo. The town is situated on the coast, with the Mediterranean Sea to the west.

The economy of Petrosino is primarily based on agriculture, with a focus on the cultivation of vineyards and olive groves. The town is known for its production of Marsala wine, a fortified wine that is popular in Italy and abroad.

Petrosino is home to several cultural and historical sites, including the Church of Saint Joseph, which is dedicated to the town's namesake. The town also hosts an annual festival in honor of Joseph Petrosino, which includes a parade and other festivities.
