Pidotimod
Pidotimod is a synthetic dipeptide molecule with immunomodulatory properties. It is used in the treatment of recurrent respiratory infections and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Pidotimod has been shown to stimulate the immune system, enhancing the body's natural defenses against infection.
Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]
Pidotimod acts by stimulating the immune system. It enhances the function of T-lymphocytes and increases the production of cytokines, which are proteins that regulate the immune response. Pidotimod also stimulates the production of antibodies, enhancing the body's ability to fight off infections.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Pidotimod is used in the treatment of recurrent respiratory infections, such as bronchitis and pneumonia. It is also used in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a condition characterized by difficulty breathing due to damage to the lungs.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
The most common side effects of Pidotimod include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Less common side effects include rash, itching, and fever. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, patients are advised to seek medical attention.
Contraindications[edit | edit source]
Pidotimod is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components. It is also contraindicated in patients with autoimmune diseases, as it may exacerbate the condition.
Interactions[edit | edit source]
Pidotimod may interact with other medications, including immunosuppressants and certain antibiotics. Patients should inform their healthcare provider of all medications they are currently taking before starting treatment with Pidotimod.
Dosage[edit | edit source]
The dosage of Pidotimod varies depending on the patient's age, weight, and the severity of the condition being treated. It is typically taken orally, once or twice daily.
