Plafond
Plafond is a term used in anatomy and medicine to refer to the upper surface of various structures. The term is derived from the French word for "ceiling". In the context of anatomy, it is often used to describe the upper surface of a body part or cavity.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
In the human body, the term plafond is used in several contexts. For example, the tibial plafond refers to the upper surface of the distal end of the tibia, which forms the roof of the ankle joint. Similarly, the orbital plafond refers to the upper surface of the eye socket, and the ethmoidal plafond refers to the upper surface of the ethmoid bone in the skull.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Injuries or diseases affecting the plafond can have significant clinical implications. For example, fractures of the tibial plafond, also known as Pilon fractures, can lead to long-term complications such as arthritis and chronic pain. Similarly, abnormalities of the orbital or ethmoidal plafond can lead to vision problems or sinusitis, respectively.
