Portuguese refers to anything of, from, or related to the country of Portugal, including its people, culture, language, and history.

The history of Portugal is intertwined with that of the broader Iberian Peninsula. Portugal's history has influenced the culture and development of the nation and its people, leading to a significant impact on the world stage.

The Portuguese people are a nation and ethnic group native to Portugal, in the west of the Iberian Peninsula in Southwestern Europe. Their language is Portuguese, and their predominant religion is Christianity, mainly Roman Catholicism.

Language[edit | edit source]

Portuguese language is a Romance language originating in the Iberian Peninsula of Europe. It is the official language of Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Portuguese culture has been shaped by a variety of influences, including pre-Celtic and Celtic periods, Roman occupation, the period of Visigothic rule, the Islamic period, and the Christian Reconquest.

Cuisine[edit | edit source]

Portuguese cuisine is diverse. The Portuguese consume a lot of dry cod (bacalhau in Portuguese), for which there are hundreds of recipes. There are more than enough bacalhau dishes for each day of the year.

Literature[edit | edit source]

Portuguese literature is, generally speaking, literature written in the Portuguese language, particularly by citizens of Portugal. It may also refer to literature written by people living in Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique, as well as other Portuguese-speaking countries.

Music[edit | edit source]

Music of Portugal includes many different styles and genres, as a result of its history. These can be broadly divided into classical music, traditional/folk music and popular music and all of them have produced internationally successful acts, with the country seeing a recent expansion in musical styles, especially in popular music.
