Pottstown is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. Located about 40 miles northwest of Philadelphia, it is part of the Delaware Valley metropolitan area. Pottstown was founded in 1752 and incorporated as a borough in 1815.

Pottstown was originally named Pottsgrove after its founder, John Potts, an ironmaster and founder of the Pottsgrove Manor. The town was laid out in 1752 and was a center for iron production. The name was changed to Pottstown in 1815 when it was incorporated as a borough.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 5.5 square miles, all of it land. The Schuylkill River runs through the town, providing opportunities for recreation and commerce.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the 2020 census, Pottstown had a population of 22,377. The borough is part of the Pottstown Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes parts of Montgomery, Chester, and Berks counties.

Pottstown has a diverse economy with a mix of manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The town has a rich history in iron and steel production, which has evolved into modern manufacturing and technology industries.

Pottstown is served by the Pottstown School District, which includes Pottstown High School, Pottstown Middle School, and several elementary schools. The borough is also home to the Montgomery County Community College's West Campus.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Pottstown is accessible via U.S. Route 422, which connects the borough to Reading and King of Prussia. Public transportation is provided by the Pottstown Area Rapid Transit (PART) system.
