Prada
Prada is an Italian luxury fashion house, specializing in leather handbags, travel accessories, shoes, ready-to-wear, perfumes, and other fashion accessories. The company was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada and is headquartered in Milan, Italy.
History[edit | edit source]
Prada was established in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as a leather goods shop - Fratelli Prada (English: Prada Brothers) - in Milan. Initially, the shop sold leather goods and imported English steamer trunks and handbags. Mario Prada did not believe that women should have a role in business, and so he prevented female family members from entering his company. Ironically, Mario's son harbored no interest in the business, so it was Mario's daughter Luisa Prada who took the helm of Prada as his successor, and ran it for almost twenty years. Her own daughter, Miuccia Prada, joined the company in 1970, eventually taking over from her mother in 1978.
Expansion and Growth[edit | edit source]
Under Miuccia Prada's direction, the company expanded into the luxury market and began to diversify its product line. In 1984, Prada launched its first line of footwear. The brand's popularity increased significantly in the 1990s, and it became known for its minimalist designs and high-quality materials. Prada's success led to the opening of boutiques in major cities around the world, including New York City, Paris, London, and Tokyo.
Product Lines[edit | edit source]
