Anatomy

The prelaryngeal lymph nodes, also known as the Delphian nodes, are typically singular in number and are located on the thyrohyoid membrane, anterior to the laryngeal prominence. They receive afferent lymphatic vessels from the larynx, and their efferent vessels drain into the deep cervical lymph nodes.

Clinical Significance

The prelaryngeal lymph nodes are clinically significant as they can be involved in various pathological conditions. Enlargement of these nodes, known as lymphadenopathy, can be a sign of infection, autoimmune diseases, or malignancies. In particular, they are often involved in the spread of laryngeal and thyroid cancers.
