Preputium clitoridis
Preputium Clitoridis
The Preputium Clitoridis is a part of the female anatomy that is part of the clitoris. It is a fold of skin that surrounds and protects the clitoral glans. It can also be referred to as the clitoral hood.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The Preputium Clitoridis is located at the top of the vulva, where it forms a hood-like covering over the clitoral glans. It is similar in function to the prepuce in males, which covers the glans of the penis. The size and shape of the Preputium Clitoridis can vary widely among women.
Function[edit | edit source]
The primary function of the Preputium Clitoridis is to protect the sensitive clitoral glans from friction and to keep it moist. The clitoral hood also retracts during sexual arousal, exposing the clitoral glans.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
In some cases, the Preputium Clitoridis can be larger than usual, a condition known as clitoral phimosis. This can cause discomfort or pain, especially during sexual activity. In such cases, a surgical procedure known as a clitoral hood reduction can be performed.
