Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine (Marie Victoria Feodore Leopoldine; 8 August 1874 – 16 November 1878) was a member of the House of Hesse-Darmstadt. She was born in Darmstadt, Grand Duchy of Hesse, German Empire, as the daughter of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom.

Tragically, Princess Marie passed away at the young age of 4 on 16 November 1878 in Darmstadt. She was laid to rest at Rosenhöhe in Darmstadt.

Princess Marie was born on 8 August 1874 in Darmstadt, Germany. She was the youngest daughter of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse, and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom. Marie was known for her cheerful disposition and was a beloved member of the Hesse-Darmstadt family.

Death[edit | edit source]

On 16 November 1878, Princess Marie succumbed to an illness in Darmstadt, just four years old at the time. Her passing deeply saddened her family and the people of Hesse.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Despite her short life, Princess Marie of Hesse and by Rhine left a lasting impact on those who knew her. She is remembered for her kindness and gentle nature.
