Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) is a test that overseas doctors, or international medical graduates (IMGs), must pass before they are allowed to work as doctors in the United Kingdom. • Have passed the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Occupational English Test (OET) with the required scores to prove their proficiency in English.
• Have the necessary postgraduate clinical experience, as specified by the GMC.

Candidates preparing for the PLAB test can use various resources, including books, online courses, and practice questions. The GMC provides a blueprint of the test, which outlines the topics covered and the skills assessed.

Registration

After Passing the PLAB Test

After passing both parts of the PLAB test, IMGs must apply for registration with a license to practice with the GMC. This is the final step before they can work as doctors in the UK. Additionally, they may need to complete a period of supervised practice, known as the Foundation Programme, especially if they have not undergone a similar training program in their home country.

The PLAB test is challenging and requires thorough preparation. Additionally, passing the PLAB test does not guarantee employment within the NHS or other healthcare settings in the UK. IMGs must also navigate the UK's visa and immigration requirements.
