Prudence Nobantu Mabele
Prudence Nobantu Mabele (21 July 1971 – 10 July 2017) was a prominent South African HIV/AIDS activist and the founder of the Positive Women's Network (PWN). She was a pioneering figure in the fight against HIV/AIDS and a vocal advocate for the rights of women living with the disease.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Prudence Mabele was born on 21 July 1971 in South Africa. She was diagnosed with HIV in 1990, a time when the disease was heavily stigmatized. Despite the challenges, she pursued her education and became a qualified medical technologist.
Activism[edit | edit source]
In 1996, Mabele founded the Positive Women's Network, an organization dedicated to supporting women living with HIV/AIDS. The organization aimed to provide a platform for women to share their experiences and advocate for their rights. Under her leadership, PWN grew to become a significant force in the fight against HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
Mabele was also involved in various other initiatives and organizations. She was a member of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) and worked closely with international bodies such as the United Nations to address issues related to HIV/AIDS.
