The Public Health Service Distinguished Service Medal is the highest personal decoration awarded by the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. It is awarded for exceptionally meritorious service to the government in a duty of great responsibility.

The Public Health Service Distinguished Service Medal was established in 1943. It is awarded to members of the United States Public Health Service who have demonstrated exceptional service and leadership in their field. The medal recognizes significant contributions to public health and the well-being of the nation.
Criteria[edit | edit source]
The medal is awarded to officers of the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps who have performed duties of great responsibility in an exceptionally meritorious manner. The service must be of such a high degree that it is recognized as a significant contribution to the mission of the Public Health Service.
Design[edit | edit source]
The design of the Public Health Service Distinguished Service Medal features a gold medal with the seal of the United States Public Health Service on the obverse. The reverse side typically includes space for engraving the recipient's name and the date of the award.
