Puebla is a state located in the central part of Mexico, bordered by the states of Veracruz to the east, Hidalgo, México, Tlaxcala, and Morelos to the west, and Guerrero and Oaxaca to the south. Its capital city, also named Puebla, is one of the oldest cities in Mexico and a significant colonial era location. The state is known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and significant contributions to Mexican cuisine, architecture, and industry.

The area now known as Puebla has a long history dating back to the pre-Hispanic period, with significant settlements of indigenous peoples such as the Nahuas, Totonacs, and Otomi. The region was conquered by the Aztec Empire before falling to Spanish forces led by Hernán Cortés in the early 16th century. The city of Puebla was founded in 1531 to secure the trade route between Mexico City and the port of Veracruz. It quickly became a significant colonial city, known for its unique architecture and as a center of learning and the arts.

Puebla is characterized by its diverse geography, which includes parts of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range, the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, and the fertile valleys in between. The economy of Puebla is diverse, with strong sectors in manufacturing, particularly automotive and textile industries, as well as agriculture and services. The state is a significant producer of corn, apples, and other fruits, as well as a center for the production of Volkswagen and Audi vehicles in Mexico.

Puebla attracts tourists with its rich history, colonial architecture, and natural beauty. Key attractions include the capital's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the Great Pyramid of Cholula, considered the largest pyramid by volume in the world; and the towns of Atlixco and Cuetzalan, known for their natural surroundings and traditional festivals.

The state is home to several important educational institutions, including the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Mexico, offering a wide range of academic programs.

Puebla's transportation network includes major highways, a freight railway system, and the Hermanos Serdán International Airport, facilitating connectivity within Mexico and beyond.
