Quality Markets[edit | edit source]

Quality Markets is a supermarket chain that was founded in 1913 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The chain was a subsidiary of Penn Traffic until it was sold to Tops Markets LLC in 2007. Quality Markets stores were located in western Pennsylvania, western New York, and northeastern Ohio.

History[edit | edit source]

Quality Markets was founded by Paul Ingersoll in 1913. The first store was located in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The chain expanded rapidly in the 1920s and 1930s, opening stores in western Pennsylvania and western New York.

In 1968, Quality Markets was acquired by Penn Traffic, a supermarket and general merchandise retailer. Under Penn Traffic's ownership, Quality Markets continued to expand, opening stores in northeastern Ohio.

In 2007, Penn Traffic sold Quality Markets to Tops Markets LLC, a supermarket chain based in Williamsville, New York. Following the sale, many Quality Markets stores were rebranded as Tops Markets.

Products and Services[edit | edit source]

Quality Markets offered a wide range of products, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, bakery items, and non-food items. The chain also offered services such as pharmacy, floral, and catering.

Community Involvement[edit | edit source]

Quality Markets was known for its community involvement. The chain sponsored numerous local events and charities in the areas where it operated.
