The Queen Alexandra Hospital for Women was an Australian hospital located in Hobart, Tasmania. It was established in 1905 to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902. The hospital provided care for pregnant women, natal and neonatal care, and served as a training hospital for midwives and nurses.
Originally operated by a private board of management, the hospital came under the control of the Government of Tasmania in 1950. It gradually affiliated its services with the Royal Hobart Hospital. In 1980, the hospital building in Battery Point was closed due to its outdated facilities. The Queen Alexandra Hospital was then relocated to a new wing attached to the Royal Hobart Hospital. In 1999, the Queen Alexandra wing was sold to a private consortium, who reopened the site as the Hobart Private Hospital.
Notable individuals associated with the Queen Alexandra Hospital include Hollywood actor Errol Flynn, who was born there in 1909. Additionally, the perpetrator of the Port Arthur massacre, Martin Bryant, was born at the hospital in May 1967.
