Queensbridge Houses

Queensbridge Houses is the largest public housing development in North America. It is located in Long Island City, in the borough of Queens, New York City. The development is managed by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA).

Queensbridge Houses was completed in 1939, during the Great Depression, as part of the Public Works Administration's efforts to provide affordable housing to low-income families. The development was named after the nearby Queensboro Bridge, which connects Queens to Manhattan.

The development consists of 96 six-story buildings, with a total of 3,142 apartments. The buildings are arranged in a "Y" shape, creating large, open spaces between them. Each building has a unique color scheme, which was intended to help residents identify their building from a distance.

Queensbridge Houses has a diverse community, with residents from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The development has been home to several notable individuals, including rapper Nas, who grew up in Queensbridge and often references the community in his music.
