RU58642

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

RU58642

RU58642 is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen (NSAA) which was never marketed. It is a selective antagonist of the androgen receptor (AR) and has been used in scientific research to study the function of the AR.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

RU58642, like other NSAAs, works by blocking the effects of androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. It does this by binding to the androgen receptor and preventing it from interacting with androgens. This can help to reduce the effects of these hormones in tissues like the prostate gland, where they can promote the growth of cancer cells.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

RU58642 is a nonsteroidal compound, which means it does not have a steroid structure like many other antiandrogens. Instead, it has a unique chemical structure that allows it to bind to the androgen receptor with high affinity.

Research[edit | edit source]

RU58642 has been used in a variety of research studies to investigate the role of the androgen receptor in health and disease. For example, it has been used to study the effects of androgens on the growth of prostate cancer cells, and to investigate the role of the androgen receptor in the development of male sexual characteristics.
