Raúl Zurita (born January 10, 1950) is a renowned Chilean poet and writer. He is considered one of the most significant literary figures in contemporary Latin American literature. Zurita's work often addresses themes of political repression, human rights, and the landscape of Chile.

Raúl Zurita was born in Santiago, Chile. He studied civil engineering at the Federico Santa María Technical University in Valparaíso. During his time at university, he became involved in the literary and political movements of the 1960s and 1970s.

Zurita's literary career began in the early 1970s. His first collection of poems, Purgatorio, was published in 1979. This work is notable for its experimental style and its exploration of the human condition under dictatorship.
