Rage (collectible card game)
Rage is a collectible card game (CCG) originally published by White Wolf Publishing in 1995. The game is based on the World of Darkness role-playing game setting, specifically the Werewolf: The Apocalypse series.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Rage is a competitive card game where players take on the roles of Garou, werewolves from the Werewolf: The Apocalypse universe. Players build decks from a pool of cards and use them to battle against each other. The objective is to defeat opponents by reducing their Rage to zero or by achieving other victory conditions specified by the game rules.
Card Types[edit | edit source]
The game features several types of cards, each with unique functions:
- Character Cards: Represent the Garou and other creatures.
- Combat Cards: Used during battles to attack or defend.
- Event Cards: Trigger specific events that can alter the course of the game.
- Sept Cards: Represent the various septs (tribal communities) and provide special abilities.
Deck Construction[edit | edit source]
Players construct their decks using a combination of the different card types. Decks must adhere to specific rules regarding the number of cards and the types of cards included. This allows for a wide range of strategies and play styles.
Expansions[edit | edit source]
Rage has had several expansions that introduced new cards and mechanics to the game. Some of the notable expansions include:
- Rage: The Umbra
- Rage: Wyrm's Turn
- Rage: War of the Amazon
Reception[edit | edit source]
Rage received mixed reviews upon its release. While praised for its thematic depth and connection to the Werewolf: The Apocalypse universe, it faced criticism for its complexity and balance issues. Despite this, it has maintained a dedicated fan base and continues to be played in various gaming communities.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Although no longer in print, Rage has left a lasting impact on the collectible card game genre. It is remembered for its unique mechanics and its integration with the World of Darkness setting. The game has also inspired fan-made expansions and online communities dedicated to preserving and expanding the game.
