Rebbachisaurinae
Rebbachisaurinae is a subfamily of sauropod dinosaurs that lived during the Cretaceous period. This group is known for their distinctive, elongated necks and small heads, which are characteristic features of the sauropod family.
Taxonomy[edit | edit source]
The Rebbachisaurinae subfamily belongs to the larger family of Rebbachisauridae, which is part of the superfamily Diplodocoidea. The subfamily was first defined by paleontologist José Fernando Bonaparte in 1997.
Description[edit | edit source]
Rebbachisaurines are characterized by their long, slender necks and small heads. They also have a unique, hump-like structure on their backs, which is thought to have been used for fat storage. The body size of rebbachisaurines varies greatly, with some species reaching lengths of up to 20 meters.
Distribution and habitat[edit | edit source]
Fossils of rebbachisaurines have been found in various parts of the world, including Africa, South America, and Europe. They lived in a variety of environments, from arid deserts to lush forests.
Paleobiology[edit | edit source]
The diet of rebbachisaurines consisted mainly of plants. Their long necks allowed them to reach vegetation that was out of reach for other herbivores. It is believed that they lived in herds, as many fossils have been found in close proximity to each other.
