Remedy UK was a pressure group formed in 2006 by junior doctors in the United Kingdom. The organization was established in response to the perceived inadequacies and unfairness of the Medical Training Application Service (MTAS) and Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) reforms.

History[edit | edit source]

Remedy UK was founded by a group of junior doctors who were dissatisfied with the MTAS and MMC reforms introduced by the Department of Health and Social Care. These reforms were intended to streamline the training and career progression of doctors in the UK but were widely criticized for their implementation and impact on junior doctors' careers.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

The primary objectives of Remedy UK were to:

  • Advocate for fair and transparent medical training and recruitment processes.
  • Represent the interests of junior doctors in discussions with the Department of Health and Social Care and other relevant bodies.
  • Campaign for the improvement of working conditions and career prospects for junior doctors.

Campaigns and Actions[edit | edit source]

Remedy UK was involved in several high-profile campaigns and actions, including:

  • Organizing protests and demonstrations against the MTAS and MMC reforms.
  • Launching legal challenges to the implementation of MTAS.
  • Engaging with the media to raise awareness of the issues faced by junior doctors.

Impact[edit | edit source]

The efforts of Remedy UK contributed to significant scrutiny and criticism of the MTAS and MMC reforms. Their campaigns highlighted the flaws in the system and led to changes in the way medical training and recruitment were managed in the UK.

Dissolution[edit | edit source]

Remedy UK was dissolved in 2012 after achieving many of its objectives and following changes to the medical training and recruitment processes that addressed some of the concerns raised by the group.
