Retarded ejaculation
Retarded Ejaculation (RE), also known as Delayed Ejaculation (DE), is a medical condition characterized by a marked delay in ejaculation or a complete inability to ejaculate during sexual activity. It is one of the less common types of Sexual Dysfunction in men. This condition can cause significant distress and problems in relationships and personal well-being.
Causes[edit | edit source]
The causes of Retarded Ejaculation are multifaceted and can be divided into psychological and physical factors. Psychological causes may include Anxiety, Depression, and stress, as well as relationship issues. Physical causes can range from neurological disorders, such as Diabetes and Multiple Sclerosis, to hormonal imbalances and the side effects of certain medications, particularly antidepressants known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs).
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
The primary symptom of Retarded Ejaculation is a significant delay in ejaculation during sexual activity. In some cases, ejaculation may not be achieved at all. This condition can occur in all sexual situations, including masturbation, or it may be situational, only occurring with a partner.
Diagnosis[edit | edit source]
Diagnosis of Retarded Ejaculation typically involves a thorough medical and sexual history, along with a physical examination. Healthcare providers may also conduct tests to rule out physical causes, including hormonal tests and neurological evaluations.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
Treatment for Retarded Ejaculation depends on the underlying cause. If the condition is related to psychological factors, therapy, such as Sex Therapy or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), may be recommended. For physical causes, adjusting medication or treating the underlying medical condition may improve symptoms. In some cases, medications that affect dopamine or testosterone levels may be prescribed.
Prognosis[edit | edit source]
The prognosis for Retarded Ejaculation varies depending on the cause. Many individuals see improvement with appropriate treatment, though the condition can be persistent and challenging to treat in some cases.
