Rhizophora is a genus of tropical mangrove trees, known for their importance in coastal ecosystems around the world. The genus Rhizophora is characterized by its distinctive prop roots that support the trees in soft, muddy, and waterlogged soils. The fruit of Rhizophora is a distinctive propagule, a type of viviparous seed that germinates while still attached to the parent tree, allowing it to root immediately upon falling into the mud.

They thrive in the intertidal zones of estuarine areas, where they form dense stands known as mangrove forests.
