Rhomboid major muscle
Rhomboid Major Muscle[edit | edit source]
The Rhomboid Major Muscle is a skeletal muscle located in the upper back region of the human body. It is responsible for the retraction of the scapula, contributing to the movements of the shoulder girdle.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The Rhomboid Major originates from the spinous processes of the second to fifth thoracic vertebrae. It inserts into the medial border of the scapula, from the level of the scapular spine to the inferior angle.
Function[edit | edit source]
The primary function of the Rhomboid Major is to retract the scapula, pulling it towards the vertebral column. It also rotates the scapula, turning the glenoid cavity downwards.
Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]
Dysfunction or injury to the Rhomboid Major can result in a condition known as Scapular Winging, where the scapula protrudes from the back in an abnormal position.
